🤿 Deep Dive: Up to €2 Million for Your Mobility Solution - FFG Mobilitätswende 2026/2

In the Deep Dive we regularly present a financing or funding topic in detail. Today: the FFG call Mobilitätswende 2026/2, up to €2 million for your mobility solution.

Since 21 October, the FFG's new call Mobilitätswende 2026/2 Mobility System has been open. The pot holds €12 million, around 40% more than in the previous round with €8.6 million. The call looks for projects that make mobility in Austria more sustainable, more resilient and more inclusive, explicitly including projects from startups.

What Do You Get?

The call offers three instruments:

  • Cooperative R&D project: €100,000 to €2 million, up to 36 months. Funding rate for small companies 80% for industrial research and 60% for experimental development
  • Exploratory project: up to €500,000, up to 24 months, also possible on your own. Funding rate for small companies 70%
  • Single project in industrial research (new): up to €1 million, up to 36 months, without a consortium, only for the focus area transport infrastructure. Funding rate for small companies 70%

What Is Funded?

  • Local and regional demonstration projects: solutions that go into practice together with municipalities, regions, transport associations or mobility service providers. Local implementation partners must contribute substantially within the consortium
  • System innovations for the mobility system: open to any topic, for early ideas with genuine research content, with future users in the consortium
  • Future-proof transport infrastructure: new materials, construction methods, planning tools and maintenance methods for existing roads and railways, for example against heat and heavy rain or for the circular economy

What Is NOT Funded?

  • For demonstration projects, no industrial research, only experimental development
  • The mere transfer of existing solutions without new research content
  • Exploratory projects for demonstration and system projects only if they examine the feasibility for a specific mobility problem of a named user
  • Applications without a project description in German or with annual accounts older than 9 months

Who Can Apply and by When?

  • Companies of any legal form (except GesbR) including startups, as well as research institutions, associations, municipalities and regions
  • Cooperative project: at least one company plus one other partner (SME, research institution or partner from the EU). No partner bears more than 70% of the costs, scientific partners together at most 50%
  • Single project: registered office in Austria. Universities, universities of applied sciences and municipalities are not eligible here
  • Not eligible: companies in difficulty, GesbR (civil-law partnerships)

Submission by 24.02.2027, 12:00 noon via the FFG's eCall. The decision is expected in May 2027.

Why Does This Matter?

More budget, a new instrument without a consortium requirement and municipalities and regions explicitly invited make this round especially exciting for startups with mobility, logistics or infrastructure solutions. The evaluation scheme is new as well: exploitation and impact count for more, and ecological impact is a knockout criterion.

Our tip: bring municipalities or transport operators on board early and use the FFG's voluntary advisory meeting with a short project outline.
